  • Cork in good condition. Opened for an hour, but no decanter initially. Served at about 60 F. Took another half-hour of air in the decanter, and a slight increase in temperature to really show itself. Medium garnet color, slightest bit of bricking. In addition to the expected sediment, there was also a very fine secondary sediment which ended up coating the sides of my glass. Subdued nose with mint and vanilla notes. Rich dried black fruits, notes of burned menthol tobacco and sour cherry with velvety tannins on the palate. Still has a bit of acidity, medium length finish. A fairly big wine, but had I not known that it was a Napa cab, I would have guessed a pauillac, or maybe a margaux from a year like 2009. Still going strong, but I would drink soon.

  • Nose of bright dark fruits with blackcherry and black raspberry right up there. Hints of warm leather add interest. Palate shows a wonderfully evolving pure and precise Napa Cabernet. Black fruit driven with some mid-weight dryness that I am not used to but certainly exact for this wine. I would say this one leans more toward the traditional style Cab that so many out there are screaming for. Balance is very admirable and tannins are a bit chewy still. Finish goes long. This is a conveyor belt of pure black goodness. If you like wines like Corison and older Mayacamas, this one is for you. A Tom Farella wine.

  • Dark purple color with an earthy nose of dark berries and leather. The palate has a full body with rich and concentrated with dark cherry, currants, leather, cinnamon, and earth. Finishes long and persistent. Drink from 2012 to 2017.

  • The 2001 was better by leaps and bounds, and the 2005 was somewhere in the middle. This is still a solid Cabernet with great fruit and well integrated tannins. For me, the anise was too overpowering in this vintage.
