Mostly dark fruit, flowers and pepper, but there is an under tow of high toned red fruit, rhubarb and finger nail polish. Light VA? Not so much to detract but interesting. Defintely needed to be cooled to 45 degrees which still didn't completely calm the very heady heat. Med acid. I enjoyed it well enough.
Medium dark color. Nice nose - bright red fruits, not black or blue. Unmistakeably a Zin, but not too heavy or sweet. Not sure what, why, or how, but it was tongue-tingling, with an extraordinary, 30+ second finish. Interestingly, it's one of the two best Zins I've had in the past year, and the other was an '08 Papera Ranch.....from Novy.
Aerated with a Vinturi and decanted for one hour. Aromas of blackberry, black cherry, mocha, cedar, licorice and spice. Blackberry jam, cherry, licorice, spice and lingering tannins on the palate. Leads to long, velvety smooth, finish. Dense and full bodied. Paired with three cheese pasta.
