  • Burg wine swap night. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour going garnet. Legs.
Nose medium intensity, with aromas of earth with hint of sous bois, muddy rusticity, muddled red fruits. Wild brambly forest berries with more air. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of unfocused red fruits (after a night of air becoming sour red cherries, sour plum, rustic wild forest berries), savoury muddy earth, salt and stones minerality. Medium+ finish.
Lacking focus and verve, but has a genteel aged feel to it. Methinks no point ageing this further. Then again, another friend mentioned that meat and dark fruit emerged after >24 hours of air. So who know? The mysteries of wine.

  • Opened the 3rd bottle on this quiet Monday night - nice nose with berries and flowers ... sweet and raspberries on the palate . Love this wine because it's so effortless to enjoy it from the beginning.

  • Opened 2 bottles at my friend's birthday dinner . First time I tried Lignier was a bottle of 1993 Clos de la Roche which was of course excellent.
Clos Baulet is in no comparison to Clos de la Roche. However, it is none the less a great bottle with a reasonable price.
On the nose there was not much of a showing only slight floral. On the palate, good aged leather, followed by raspberries, little bit of mint. Even though it didn't develop much after that, it was served very good at the dinner with the crowd since it was very easy to drink .
Strongly recommend especially with the price for a highly regarded wine maker . You cannot go too wrong with Lignier . I have 2 bottles left and will tug away to see if there is any change in year or 2.
    This is ready to drink!!
