Gary's Intro Retro -- Italia!: Served double blind. Now we're talking -- a serious step up. More age here with dried cherry and plum, leather, bell pepper and tar. Gorgeous palate of tarry cherry and herbal tones. Aged fruit but the structure is lively and fresh. Detailed, long finish. My #1, group's #1.

Chicago Wine Flock...Gary Goes Italian (Chez Weber - Chicago IL): Double blind in Altesino flight. Slightly backward to start despite its age and being open several hours. This quickly fleshed out in glass, showing wonderful balance of fresh and mature flavors and aromas. Easily my #1 of the flight, group's favorite as well.

Bricking red w water rim & residue. Nose of red tart cherries, eucalyptus. Flavored of Seeet red cherry fruit, stewed fruit, tartness, meaty. Soft to med tannins. Very enjoyable.

Decanted off heavy crust in bottle and moderate amount of free sediment in the wine. Medium-red color with bricking at the rim. Sweet tobacco, cherry, strawberry, and dust on the nose. On the palate, this is sweetly fruited with cherry and strawberry carrying into a leather, tobacco, and dusty earth mid-palate. The finish is medium-long. This is fully mature and in a very good spot. Memorable and delicious. Held for the 90 minutes it lasted in the decanter. Drink.

Pleasant, and good with food, but nothing to get too excited about. B+
