  • Some hedgerow, dark chocolate and liquorice on the nose. Palate has good acidity and some bright plum fruit with a little twist of ground white pepper.

  • Still pretty youthful, Day 1 is quite vibrant with some oak still present and blue fruit. Day 2 is a tad more plummy with some light tertiary development. Quite nice.

  • This wine and vintage I reviewed for CellarTracker twice previously, on 12/2/2015 and 6/28/2020. It's now beginning to show its age -- a somewhat bitter, astringent component has invaded the wine, and an enhanced sweet dark cherry element has become more prominent; if you still have the wine and vintage in your wine collection, drink it now; my previous ratings were 90 and 96, respectively; this tasting remains unrated

  • I had reviewed this wine and vintage for CellarTracker on 12/2/2015, giving it a 90; to my amazement there was a second bottle that was found stuck far back in the wine cabinet; it was opened this evening after 11 years of aging; 14.5% alcohol; '100% MERLOT / MIS EN BOUTEILLE AU CHATEAU';
    Saranty Imports White Plains, NY (which correctly converted the French decimal comma into a decimal point, by the way); real cork with a maximal wine penetration of 22 mm, medium weight foil; medium to long legs, inky purple/brown; nose of vanilla, oak wood, dark cherry, smoky cottage cheese, slight whiff of canned tuna or salmon; opened at room temperature (25 degrees C) and vinturied, tasted right away; full mouthfeel; the long cellaring has definitely muted the tannins from what they must have once been; the stone fruits shine through to some extent although the wine can hardly be described as fruit forward; there is a complex interplay among fruitiness, tannins, sourness and sweetness; this is an outstanding wine at a level I have not yet experienced; the additional 4 years of aging have only improved on an already fine wine (if you look at the CellarTracker reviews for the 2010 vintage you'll see several tastings from this year, 2020, with rave evaluations; for the 2008 vintage Mpesu wrote three rave reviews in German for 2020 tastings); the long finish is reminiscent of hazelnuts and walnuts; pair with red meat such as lamb chops or pork ribs, slow grilled, with smoldering pecan wood chips

  • tasted after the 2010 Prima, no contest. The 2010 is in full bloom, this seems to be fading.
