Friday Afternoon at Domaine (Domaine Wine Storage - Chicago, IL): I know this vineyard site well through the wines of Jim Mack and Jemrose and I like what the team at Carlisle did here too. More rustic than most Californian syrah this has distinct pepper and olive notes wrapped around the dark fruit on the nose. The palate was pretty good, but a bit too much heat creeped in for me.
Big brooding nose of black fruit, dark chocolate, jam, smoke and spice. In the mouth, large scale but lifted and balanced. Smooth velvety black fruit is persistent and long. Powerful, long finish. Terrific stuff.
Giant, deep, dark and brooding wine. Brought to a restaurant and had it decanted for a 60-90 minutes. Did not open enough to fully enjoy so I do not feel it is fair to give it a proper score. Very beefy on the nose.
