  • This was a surprisingly fresh and youthful bottle, I never would have believed it was a 2008. The nose showed a mix of floral and savory elements, with pomegranate, blood orange, violets, and a briny salinity that was not quite strong enough to call olive. Vibrant deep purple color that looks as youthful as any 2018 Syrah. The palate has bright acidic fruit with red cherries, violets, pomegranate, and less prominent savory elements relative to the nose. Loads of structure remaining, with moderate fine silty tannins, medium plus acidity. It seems like this could easily go another 8+ years, though I’m not sure it will develop further much. Some heat on both the nose and palate, but a good vibrant wine overall.

  • I don't often use the word refreshing to describe a Syrah, but there was something mouthwatering and refreshing to this James Berry. Red currant, red plum, touch of citrus rind. Vibrant in the glass and approachable. Had this as a transition wine in a fantastic Syrah night, can after two more savory openers and before more structured Cali examples. Got a lot of praise around the table and I was happy how the bottle performed. In a good drinking window now and should hold for some time.

  • Faintly translucent cherry red. Deep, meaty nose, tart cherries. Finely detailed on the palate, black cherries, blackberries, anise, some roasted meat notes. Fine tannins, nice acidity, excellent balance. Finishes long with bright red fruits. Becomes almost lush with air. Very nice and at peak. Drink over the next 5 years at this level.

  • Popped and poured and enjoyed over two nights. This did not disappoint on night one and held steady on night two. Velvet soft texture, plush jammy dark fruit, and just plain delicious. Drink now or put in the queue for near term drinking.

  • boom, just boom. delicious to the core. no hard edges, seamless across the palate. my only complaint would be its lacking some acidity, but was so freaking tasty, who cares.
