Nose showed plum and violets with some woody notes and hints of tar. Palate showed dark fruit, leather and spice, with notes of earth tobacco and oak. This was the least evolved of the three 2008's and will definitely improve with more time. tannins still have some course edges and secondary flavors are fighting fruit, rather than being in harmony. Still, a lovely wine even now, but will get better with another 5-10 years in the bottle. I would call this wine an awkward teenager, but one that shows lots of potential and flashes of brilliance. 94 today, will improve with additional cellar age.

Drank as part of the Decanter at Home tasting. In general, I found these 2008’s to be a bit adolescent for my palate. They have lost the freshness of youth, but the grippy tannins and structure hasn’t completely smoothed and there is clearly more development to some. I am scoring these very conservatively and for how they are drinking today. I think I would like them better in 2028.
Nose of savory and sweet fruit and a palate to match. Molasses, cocoa, dried herbs, mature fruits. Long finish.
Rarities dinner “Spectacular Californians” late Nov 2021: deep rubin red color; restrained bouquet of red berries and cherries plus some violet notes; round on the palate; quite tannic for a Cabernet Franc based wine. 92-93/100
We were not informed (and I forgot to ask) if the wines served at this dinner were decanted and when by what method and how long. Based on the restrained appearance observed I doubt it was sufficient.
2008 La Muse and 2008 La Joie were served at the same time (see my other CT tasting notes).

A good wine, but not what I had hoped given other experiences with this winery. At this age, it was a bit on the flabby side, the tannins did not seem up to the task, and I don’t see it getting much better. That said, we did have it PNP, so consider that. First eve pour was with friends via Coravin, then last night we opened the bottle and finished while watching the US Tennis finals, and gave the wine hours to breath. Again, it was good, nothing remarkable, just a good somewhat fruity and soft sided California wine. The other wine we shared the first eve was 2007 Darioush, this was outstanding, loved the balance between fruit and structure, loved the finish, and expect there is a decade ahead to do even better. I had brought both wines to our friends to give them an intro to some wines they had not seen before and given the age and scarcity probably would not. OK, enough said.

Chocolate, vanilla, dust on the nose. Silky smooth on the palate. Dark berries - mouth-filling mid-palate and finish.
