SO much better on day 2. This wine is massive, and it is killing the baby to drink it without a very long decant. Notes of oak and licorice at first, with dark berries to follow. Fantastic, long and intense finish. Had I rated this day 1, it would have been 91pts. It has a long, long life ahead. No need to rush.
A bit tight at first, but within an hour this had really come together. Very dark in color, lots of blue and black fruits and hints of cedar (?) and tobacco. Looonnnggg finish. Can see many years ahead of this one still. Certainly pricey though... not sure i'll take the plunge too often.
Had side by side with '11 Pott Arsenal. I scored both 94 even though they are completely different wines.. This is ready to drink and either at its prime or just beginning to slide. The tobacco and mineral notes are becoming more prominent and the tannins are fully integrated. A perfect pairing with steak.
