  • Finished the bottle today. After three days and an hour of decanting, this was a very tasty wine. Mouthfilling and very bold. Great accompaniment to my flat iron steak salad with apples, pecans, and dried cranberries. The 88 score holds. Will definitely buy again.

  • The wine is an Autralian blend of 93% Shiraz and 7% Viognier. Color (5/5): Beautiful dark purple-magenta; opaque in the center of the glass. Nose (13/15): Typical Shiraz leather and dark fruit with some floral overtones. Imagine rubbing flowers on a saddle in the heat of the day. Palate (15/20): Plum and berry stew served in a leather bowl. A little hot right out of the bottle, but smooths out fairly quickly. My second glass had been decanted for about 45 minutes and went down easily. Wines like this define "mouthfeel" as you can hear your mother saying, "Chew your food," except this time the food is wine. The Viognier "kick" (endive and edible flowers...I can't think of anything else to call it) comes through in the finish. The finish is very long. It's like Shiraz-Shiraz-What was that?-Shiraz-Viognieeeeer. Potential (5/10): It smooths out really quickly with decanting and seems to be made to be consumed now. It's sealed with a screw cap that went "pop" when I opened it, so it may benefit somewhat from a few years' cellaring.

  • This is improving / calming down. Still fruit-driven and somewhat simplistic, but well enough made with the alcohol becoming less obvious. A ripe bubblegummy fruit nose, sweet fruit on the attack, the alcohol noticeable but no longer seeming out of balance, reasonable length. A good bbq wine now. Still wouldn't want to drink a bottle of it, in fact a glass sufficed, but certanly drinkable.
