Monthly Tuesday group #005: Barolo at least 5 years old (By JdB): The bouquet is a bit floral with still some cherries, rose hips, some dark fruits, herbs, and licorice. On the palate still cherries, some earth and autumn impressions, dark chocolate, coffee, firm acidity, a slight touch of sweetness, slightly sticky tannin, firm bitterness and a good length. Quite mature and maybe even some bite for a little more ageing, but overall the wine lacks a bit in body, roundness and finesse.

Light orange to brown hue showing age. I find it quite floral and earthy, tonka bean with a hint of berry fruit, still. More aromatic than when I last had this 4 years ago. Good structure, slight tannin and a hint of cherry; the backend drops off a bit but I'm very happy with the flavours of this wine.

Good not great. Promising aromatics of mellowed Barolo, but a little too light/thin on the palate to meet expectations. Decent finsih, but a little short.

Ruby - brown colour giving its age. The nose comes across with dark fruits (plums & raspberries) with an earthy undertone. The On the palate the fruits take a back seat with tobacco and cedar playing the dominate role. The back end lingers even at this stage. A great value wine - can't get any better with age.
