Light golden colour, fine and rather persistent mousse. Somewhat discrete nose with yellow and red apples, some winter apples, toasted notes including toasted bread and toasted hazelnuts, some other notes of development. Medium bodied, again yellow and red apples, good acidity, some minerality, and an apply finish. A fine Pinot-styled Champagne with some development that drinks well now, but many 2002s have more weight than this and are generally more impressive. 88 p.
From magnum. This was much better than my previous bottle three years ago. Complex and very appealing, although the dosage is perhaps a bit high for my preferences. Toast, nuts and yellow fruits. Probably at its peak right now. Excellent!

(Joseph Perrier Cuvée Royale) An appealing although rather developed nose, with elements of honey and nut alongside the fruit. A nicely composed palate, softer towards the finish. A good mousse, integrated acidity, quite a harmonious feel. My only issue is that it does feel a touch flat in character. But there are good points here.
