joined a tasting group at a retail store yesterday, they were tasting a red blind, the colour showed us that this wine was a matured one....., put the nose to Bordeaux and was right, put it to the left side because of some stable herbal and liquorice notes, and was wrong...., enormous elegance with some high alcohol, did not put this to Pomerol cause I was missing the Merlot- fruit....., on the other hand nothig but a high class red, midweight and very balanced bottle, improved more with the airation in the glass, some dark fruits, herbal, long finish, will not benefit from further cellaring, on top now, ***- ****,
1990 Bordeaux tasting in 2015 - round #1 (The Traklin - new location): double decanting for sediments removal 2 hours prior to drinking solid dark red colour with amber rim intense heavy earth & tertiary aroma full bodied, soft integrated tannins, excellent acidity level & harmony, fine complexity, fine oak-vanilla with bitter fruity-chocolate flavours, solid and qualitative, long enduring finish of an excellent wine.
Been a couple years since I have had this and not much as changed. Very perfumed nose of violets and red and blue fruits. Very strong singular nose. Palate matched with more red fruit, some wet stone and oak and, perhaps this was just this bottle, a background of stewed tomatoes. Despite that, this was very enjoyable with a long finish with nice grip. This does not have the richness or fullness of the recent vintages, but still impressive.
KYD Replacement: Nose: Powerful dark plum fruit and still quite young. Lovely hints of seawater, sewer and little liquorice. Also a funny hint of banana and curry powder. Palate: Dense dark cherry/plum with a touch of vanilla. A lovely fresh acidity with a hints of black currant fruit. Also a little leather, tobacco and liquorice.
