Bottom of cork on this particular bottle was covered in what I can only describe as purple sludge--as if all the sediment in the bottle was in the neck. Decanted. Crimson color. Nose of leather and and spices. Less spice, more fruit in the mouth. Medium tannins. Medium-long finish.

70% Mouvedre 30% Syrah, Spicy on the taste buds and not like a typical Syrah if that is what you expected. A very balanced and layered wine that opens the levels of the pallet as you sip it. Much in the way the Big Papa hits you with its all cab flavors, this brings Mouvedre spice, I think it's like a spiced cider flavor mixed with the Washington syrah (fleshy plumb band dark fruit) flavors together for an outragous delious blend. This inivation is truely a special wine that keeps pushing the traditional boundaries.

Efeste Winery Visit (Warehouse District in Woodinville, WA): A blend of Mourvedre and Syrah. Also very spicy and inky. This wine was definitely different tasting than the other Syrahs, so I'm assuming there is a pretty large percentage of Mourvedre in there (I can't remember how much winemaker Brennon Leighton said was in the blend). Lots of structure too, but not as much as the Eleni Syrah. Quite spicy, but not as much black pepper as the others either. More like Asian spices, and maybe a bit of cinnamon. Finish is spicy chocolate.
