  • Showed well. Aromatics and palate provided forest floor, black and cayenne pepper, light textured but full of Vosne spicy character, fine finish length.

  • First of a six-pack. Not decanted. Blood red: less full in colour (slightly fading perhaps?) compared to the Sérafin village Gevrey opened yesterday. Less extraction perhaps. Elegant red-fruits nose, developing some secondary notes too such as white pepper and truffles. Very Grivot - sexy and classy in an elegant way. The palate is similar: smooth, cool, juicy. Perhaps even slightly herbaceous? Some length; quite minerally in the back-palate. I am not sure about this in some ways. While not unpleasant, it is not as ripe or fleshy as I expected, particularly for the vintage. Perhaps it just compared unfavourably to the Sérafin (on the day) - the latter is made in a bolder, more extracted style. Or perhaps with another couple of years in bottle it will still put on some more weight. For now, I call it good / good-plus, and will hold for my others for a while.

  • This is a superb wine. Exciting fruit, perfect balance of maturity and youth.

  • Not completely shut down but pretty damn close to it. Offers up some spicy scents for about two minutes before the aroma just turns into a faint whiff of winy fruit. The palate is surprisingly juicy, getting more of its structure from the acid than tannin. The material doesn't seem nearly as dense as the 2010, but that could reflect getting to this one too late for a good preview. And then it's just rusty fruit that never opens up again.

  • Chassin Tasting Group (Joostenburg): (Tasted Blind): Mid-ruby colour, the nose is adorned with ripe plums, strawberries and black cherries with a hint of spice. The palate entry is soft, intense with ripe berry fruits and fresh acidity. Voluptuousness, it fills out the palate with the fabulous breadth of fruit (lots of plum and maraschino cherries) but sits on a little bit of acid that right now works but perhaps won’t be enough for long ageing. Silky textured, there is a noted glycerol note leading to a sweet finish, Good length. Tannins integrated and fairly fine.
