  • A Matter of Taste: London Edition (Saatchi Gallery, Chelsea): It was not showing well with a lot of reductive notes and quite a harsh angular mouth feel. Maybe it was a bad bottle

  • First sniff provides reductive tones, but after some air they are turned into lovely thyme, heather and the rather strong tone of basil and mint which I find so typical for Carignan. The palate is full-bodied and tonight impeccably balanced. The length on finish lasts some 55 seconds with the brilliant but still subtle acidity moving forward after some time in the glass. A very nice wine and just as hard to find - unfortunately. Being the French result of the co-operation between Jasper Hill's Ron Laughton and Michel Chapoutier I think the 2008 vintage was the last one...

  • This wine is evolving nicely and has many years to go in the cellar. It still is one of the best Carignane based cuvée I have tasted. It reveals the typical Carignane tones of fresh sage combined with a minty expression of red cherries. Then the other varietals in this cuvée make their voices heard with tons of dark mature fruit and subtle dark chocolate. The palate is integrated with a very nice acidity. The length on the finish lasts for about 45-50 seconds and is certainly on par with the nose and palate. This is a beautiful effort from a star producer. Well worth trying out if coming a bottle.

  • Lovely effort and as said many times before the best Carignane based cuvée I have ever tasted, the 2007 Agly Brothers is in desperate need of aeration before drinking. We just popped and poured this bottle and during the first 20 minutes the wine was oozing of dark brooding and rather dirty tones, like burnt rubber and wet stable (brett? -But if it was, aeration would likely not make any difference...). After about 45 minutes the pleasant fruit and menthol like nose appeared. The palate is full-bodied with a length on the finish lasting about 45 seconds. Overall impression is still very positive.

  • Just lovely, the 2007 Agly Brothers is a splendid effort made from 60 percent Carignane expressing an elegant yet massive nose of menthol and provencal herbs like thyme, sage and rosemary. During the first hour of aeration there is also a clear tone of wet stable and minerals - or a slight tone of 'dirt' (brett?). The palate is full-bodied with plenty of everything but still it is well-balanced and certainly kept together. Drinking perfectly right now, there is no doubt it will last many more years in the cellar.
