a great wine on his culminating point. fine bitter-chocolate, perfect balanced and in best harmony; a modern styled barolo, unusual "feminine" (soft) for a nebbiolo ...

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #052; Italy: Barolo vs. Barbaresco (By RvD): Chocolate, mocha and a lot of new oak in the bouquet. Same on the palate. Juicy youthful fruits and some truffle in the taste as well. Good acidity and bitterness and a fairly long finish. Full bodied. Modern made "design" wine. I get confused by a wine like this. I am fond of classical Barolo wines, but this modern style wine is also beautiful. I guess I like both styles for its own merits.

If you like Italian wines -- this is great one. It has that wonderful Piedmont RUST color and the taste of the earth from Barolo area. This wine is a great example of new world Barolo with great classic tastes. The wine is wonderful -- can't wait to drink the other. I am not sure if it is at is peak because there is still a considerable amount of tannin left but I can not imagine it getting better -- but I can hope it will.

Montreal Offline: Piedmonte (Restaurant La Forchetta): Deep ruby red, darkest of the bunch. Nose of red fruits, lots of vanilla and oak. Palate of sweet fruits with a well balance acidity and nice medium finish.
