Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • An interesting find because the 1990 vintage was widely undeclared due to recession in America and Britain at the time. Also, there were shortages of grape spirit therefore most Port went into house blends. However, this Port, bottled in 2001 has a sharp reddish, orange colour (not quite tawny). After half an hour in the decanter, the nose is still tightly wound, but slowly opens up with coffee cake aromas and brandied oranges. On the palate, it is initially rather thin and light (not the greatest year due to variable weather conditions), but the mix of zingy redcurrant, concentrated dried fruits and a caramelised finish, make this an enjoyable summer Port. ***1/2
