Dave B Visits Albany, Day 2 (Salil's, Albany, NY): [Opened around 1pm. Tasted around 7:30pm.] Heavenly nose of apples and apricots. Gorgeous in the mouth. Expansive and complex. I could drink this all night. Really goes well with the biryani.

Rieslingfan visits Albany; 1/26/2024-1/27/2024 (Châteauneuf-du-Salil, Albany): Last bottle from a 3 bottle lot I bought in 2011 - the first bottle then (see my note from July 2011) was a powerhouse of ripe fruit. The fruit's still very much there, but it's more savoury now and not as intensely bright/ripe. At the same time it doesn't show as much Grüner character as it did a few years back - the greener herbal/lightly vegetal notes are much less apparent, lurking in the background of the wine now, and there's a honeyed, botrytised patina to the flavours now. An impressive wine, though one that speaks much more to the Hirtzberger style than it does the grape variety.

As always spectacular. The overwhelming intensity with the herbal and floral notes, power and lengt, it is one of the few wines where the lack of pronounced acidity is not a disturbing factor.

Again, one of the miracles in the wonderful world of Wine. Overwhelming nose af stone fruit and spiciness, rich in the mouse with stone fruit, spices, and as always a minimal acidity, which keeps it away from a perfect score. Long, long, a beauty. As always, a wine to impress and surprise your winefriends. By far nr 1 in Grüner Veltliner.

Best QPR for S$150: My contribution. Most were in Alsace or German Riesling for this and I could see the reasoning for Alsace. Slightly off-dry with saline green fruit, the alcohol could be felt but the wine was still very fresh especially for its age. My first time having the Honivogl and it definitely shares similarities with the Singgerriedel in terms of the sheer weight of the wine. Quite a monumental wine for me, similar to the first time that I had the Singerriedel but some preferred to have more acidity.
