Offering a classically Moutonian character, the 1949 still delights with a vivacious, gregarious nose of mint and redcurrant jam - sweet and savory - with sandalwood, pencil, horse, and charming jasmine accents. It’s only on the palate that you’re reminded of its age - though, even from a 750 with a mid-shoulder fill - you’re still treated to some succulent fruit and warm red spices that remind me of the 1955. This particularly example is living dangerously, fizzling after its debut. But its debut is utterly moving.

Dark orange, brick red, distinct light rim, muted coral red core; wonderful nose, lots of depth and noble woods, dried currants; still a dense and packed, almost meaty palate with harmonious Cabernet notes, dried olives, almonds, cigarbox and leather tones that is Pauillac supreme within Medoc; Consistently evolved into a mature Chambertin-esque long mouthfeel; impressive bottle #46921, legend status at hand. 97-99P

From a great looking bottle with a very high shoulder fill and a firm cork, this wine had a very deep red center and red/orange rims. The medium+ intensity nose put forth black cherries, anise, asian spices, roasted meat, some mint, and soil. This nose took several hours of air to develop but when it did, wow!
In the mouth, this wine was refined but dramatic and extremely well balanced. the tannins were light and well integrated. The wine did not seem to have a lot of power but it lingered on you palate for an eternity. The mid-palate had a fruitiness that was very appealing.
This is top notch but do not dare drink it without 4+ hours of air!

What a stunningly complex nose of black fruits, graphite and dill. Very much an old-style Bordeaux but in the most captivating way with incredible flavors of decayed black fruits, graphite, soy, spice and wood-smoke. Balanced and sturdy and so complex with just the right earthy funk, this is the most soulful Mouton I've ever tasted. Wow! At Latour, Crystal Springs 2/1/17
