  • 13.8% abv. Deep yellow gold color. Soft nose of tropical fruits, pineapple brûlée, honeycrisp apple, slightest hints of butterscotch and lemon; quite muted on pnp. Viscous and rich, full in mouth; modest amount of acid ebbs in and out. Honeyed, sweet butter, touch of citrus, straw and bread. Off dry, finishes fairly long (a few tannins even make an appearance) but doesn’t really find another gear. My bottle from auction, capsule and cork were very sound, I detect some cork flavor on palate, and touch of oxidation. Enjoyable trying aged wines, this one should be consumed soon if you have them.

  • Apparent from the colour that this is not in the first flush of youth - quite dark but clear. Good nose - touch of toffee apple and clearly very mature. Still fresh though. On palate it carries through to a reasonably long finish - not cracking up at any point, decent balancing acidity. Quite sweet, flavour matches the nose. This is definitely not a pudding wine; better to drink on its own. A very enjoyable middleweight. Perfect for a moderately sunny summer evening.

  • Charming as an aperitif.
Although this bottle was past its best days, and there were (trace) problems with cork spoilage, I found this a fascinating window into the appellation, and a 30 year old vintage.
Light and faintly aromatic of flowers, honey, and quince; sweet, but not cloying, with a counter-balancing tartness of light stone and mineral. Faded, there was just enough character left to make one think of a late spring afternoon in the Loire.

    Rated 1 on a scale of -1 to +3.

  • A well stored bottle bought from the importer.golden with an olive tinge.Almond and quince on the nose. There is plent of acidity to keep it fresh..Drying out a bit but with a dried apricot character. the level of sweetness is medium so a wine at the end of a meal with cheese or nuts. Not enough sweetness to support a gooey dessert.

  • Not really a tasting note, but I do see that there are still 28 bottles of this in the CT "community" - I opened one last night for dinner, and I think the wine is clearly past it's peak at this point. Nothing objectionable, but nothing overly exciting either, and no longer sweet enough to really call a dessert wine, yet without enough acidity to serve as an aperitif.

If you still have a bottle (or more), time to check one out.
