This is really strange stuff. Huge, huge nose, but odd. Cinnamon, dark red fruit and a kind of funk that I could not put my finger on. In the mouth, amazingly light on the feet, not at all matching the nose, and the taste was much bigger than the texture. Was well liked but those drinking, and I did enjoy it, but just not quite what I need to call it outstanding or great. Unique, perhaps a slightly off bottle, but worth drinking and may get better.
Very similar profile to the recent Rochioli Estate Pinots - black raspberry, sappy cherry, earthy notes and lots of woody underbrush. The West Block does show more structure, a silkier texture and depth to the fruit. A classy wine but I prefer the Little Hill SVD.
