Colour light gold. A nose led by pineapple, passionfruit and other exotic fruit notes, also green apple, crème fraîche, mandarin peel, a little chalk and oyster shell. A relatively ripe bouquet showing some elevage. Also ripe, rich and large scaled on the palate, but relatively fresh, and certainly not flabby. Flavours again in the exotic fruit spectrum including pineapple, rock melon and guava, but also Meyer lemon juice, green apple, lime peel and greengage. Sufficient, but certainly not searing, acidity, providing good balance and focus. Good structure, depth and length, finishing on wet granite and calcified seashell flavours. The climat and the vintage combine to make this not a Chablis for the purist, but, in my view, a good Chardonnay nonetheless. This Fourchaume has the structure and fruit weight to cellar for 10+ years, if it survives premox.
Nose of seashell, chalk, apple peel, pear and peach. Very focused and intense on nose and palate. Great delineation. Medium bodied with bright acidity and superior length and breadth on the palate. Drink over the next 5 years.
