Pop and pour. Dark, opaque maroon color. Thick, slow legs. Initial nose has minerals, stems, plums and rice crackers. Initial palate is full-bodied with a dark fruit profile. A little smoky, but nothing too obtrusive. Palate-coating, but not complex. Tannins are a little bitter. Nice acidic pop on the back palate. As it opens, there's more fresh strawberry fruit and a little minerality. As strong as the initial palate is, the finish fades rather quick. Paired nicely with grilled chicken.

We drank this bottle after re-organizing the cellar and pulling some ready to drink bottles from the shelf. This was a little long in the tooth. It has sufficient acid to make one almost think it's turning, but, as it opened in the glass it showed a lot of fruit and a more complex palate than at first. It ended with a slightly dry and flinty mouth feel -- tannins which weren't at first evident on the tongue. I think this would drink better if it had warmed to room temperature and been filtered and decanted. I'm definitely on a path to drink these sooner rather than later -- this wine isn't getting better at this point.

Still wonderful bouquet on this wine. Hint of cherry. Fairly complex.
