  • No pressure under the cork, but a spritz on pouring and a few lazily-rising bubbles in the glass. Mid gold. Mature aroma with plenty of mushroom; with air, spicy apple and toffee. Still appreciably fizzy on the tongue. Lively-tasting, with cooked apple, apricot, and lemon; bright acidity and a nice creaminess. Ultimately quite sweet, but well integrated.

The bottle was in impeccable condition for its age, and the wine shows it's been stored well. I'm surprised nobody else has put a tasting note up for this wine before. My first '81. According to Juhlin (who rated it just 84 albeit the best part of a quarter of a century ago), it's 66% pinot noir, 34% chardonnay. [Cork + cage; 12% abv; Nickolls & Perks, -11% @£240].
