-- decanted immediately before initial taste -- -- tasted non-blind over a few hours --
NOSE: tight; smoked pepperoni; red-fruited; clean; slight earthy/mineral aspect; anise seed; fills-out with approx. 3 hours of air; moderately expressive after some air exposure; complex.
BODY: some sediment present; cork soaked ~ 25%; no visual signs of age; dark ruby color of medium to medium-deep depth; medium bodied.
TASTE: medium to medium-fine tannins are very drying; strong garrigue and mineral; a touch horsey; not gloppy, over-extracted, or too concentrated; decent-to-good acidity; 14.8% alc. not noticeable; fruit darkened over the course of 4 hours; seems a bit hollow or still in hiding yet; hold.
Everything you'd expect. Decanted 30 minutes. Funky nose of black licorice, anise and turned soil. Still mildly tannic but no rough edges. Black fruit buried in soil. Anise, Dr. Pepper, and rosemary. Provence in a glass. Great match with beef daube with hazelnuts, capers, garlic and parsley. Peaking but will hold.
