Rockss and Fruit

  • By Lyle Fass
11/24/2007, (See more on Rockss and Fruit...)

(Soldera "Intistieti" Brunello di Montalcino) An everchanging nose that transcended Sangiovese yet stayed faithfully on target as Sangiovese. Ripe deep cherry fruit, spice, sandalwood, mineral and wet earth abound on the nose. The nose was more complex and nuanced than the previous Miani. The fruit was decidedly in the red camp and was very layered on the palate. The concentration was fantastic and after a bunch of aeration it was incredibly complex and kept evolving in the glass. Great acidity that tempered all the flavors. The last sip was just stunning and reminiscent of DRC Grand Echezeaux's I have had in the past. Absolutely remarkable wine and makes me a believer that Gianfranco Soldera is making the best wines in all of Tuscany by far. Each bottle I have had is even more remarkable than the next. Again I wish they weren't as expensive as they are. But I would be hard-pressed to argue against it as this stuff really delivers.
