Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 89 points

  • Odd.... this bottle seems at the right sort of balance for drinking. Hot-climate smells of herbs and fruit. Nice dusty bouquet. Bit of acetone. Slightly animally. Sois bois. Well put together, but lacking complexity. I've had four of these now, and each has - in its own way - been a slight disappointment. A bit like Bandol in character, but not as wild. Even a bit like Struma valley reds, but more feminine. Lacking minerally interest, and that special "lifted" something that inhabits good Burgundy and Spatburgunder. Maybe it's strawberries I'm missing; just specificity: too broad and heavy? All frustratingly earthbound and prosaic whatever the reason. (89+)

  • Cork soaked through, with only a couple of mm dry at the top. The wine much more evolved, but flabby. Nice enough. Some spice, sous bois, mushrooms, strawberry. Pinot. "Hot". Fruit less precise and structure loose. Lacking the glossy sheen and intensity of the previous bottles I have had. I think this has kept imperfectly, compared to the previous two.

  • Lovely smells on opening this. Deep and vegetal and lots of dark ripe fruit. Promising indeed. Still young and in need of considerable age. Perhaps a bit diffident. Perfect balance though. Delicious - in a youthful way. Probably my previous note is correct, and this wants a heck of a long cellartime before it's really giving up the complexity that's implicit. Perhaps somewhere just shy of 90 points for drinking now. Perhaps nudging 90. Future - probably higher. Maybe considerably. This is not familiar territory for me.

    Rather expensive...?

  • Tight at first. Needed 1-2 hours to start opening up. Good fruit. Acidic flick. Quite deep. Full-bodied. A little secondary character. This is (to my surpsie) much too young: it will need a time to develop the classic savoury Pinot character, that's clearly in there somewhere. At the moment still too one-dimensional and merely packed with promise of great things to come. Only around 88-89 at the moment. Hands off: depending on the level of complexity this achieves later in life this could rate far far higher. Not scored for now.
