A very good value crowd-pleaser..this has come around nicely in the last year or two. Still plenty of tannin and usual Rioja vanilla, the perfect red to open for unexpected guests and inexpensive meat dishes!
It's a good value Rioja. Quite tannic, and lacking the smoothness of say, Wine Society Crianza. Not the 'rave about' bottle I'd expected. Nothing about it jars, it's smooth for a <£10 bottle, but it's also rather unnoticeable. No real flaws, but no great appeal. It doesn't have the silky warmth of a Rioja Alta. It's a more tannic, almost French style, more rigid and therefore perhaps better suited to beef than lamb.
