Wonderful wine. Dark red color, a bit closed at the beginning, needed air. After an hour or so a wonderful nose. Dark berries, espresso, vanilla, but not dominant, rather reduced. Elegance in the finish together with sweetness; noticeable but soft tannins. As I am a big fan of Almaviva I think this wine is not yet fully developed and needs some more years. Very different from the 1998 and the 2002 for example. Luckily I have two more bottles…

Dinner at Malbec in DC (Washington, DC): This was a good wine, but wow this was young for 22 years. Probably needs 10 more. Certainly modern in that the fruit was big, tannins have moderated, but I didnt notice any real tertiary notes as yet. It could have used a bit more acidity and honestly, I had a hard time identifying the blend. I didnt notice a ton of oak, but did see some chocolate hints.

Had trouble with the cork as no two prong was available at restaurant. Beautiful dark maroon color with little orange around the rim of the glass. Wine was decanted 45 minutes. Fruit still there but muted on first taste. Copious Tobacco and leather on the back palate. Consumed with grilled filet mignon. My last bottle. I’d say drink sooner rather than later.

Young and rich, tannic, very Pauillac in style, one question here, will the tannins out pace the fruits in the future?
