  • Some nice Burgundies (Chicago, IL): I've not had particularly compelling experiences with Giroud, but I liked this bottle, especially with the somewhat overdone Château de la Tour alongside. This has a coolness to it, with a red-fruited acidic cut that seems more 2008 than 2009. Clean and bright, but lacking the weight I want in a grand cru.

  • From 75cl, perfect cork, decanted 45 minutes for fine powdery sediment. In better shape than my previous bottle (CT TN 25.02.2022), this pale crimson wine smells of attractive, bright cassis with forest floor and just a hint of incense. The entry is light-bodied and juicy-acidic, but the mid-palate has an almost Fernet Branca-like bitterness and astringency which dries out entirely towards the shortish finish. Conceivably the acidity and bitterness might be good signs for further maturation. 89-90P, depending on what you like.

  • From 75cl, perfect cork, decanted 1 hour. Alarmingly pale/bricked/brown for its tender age, this showed a moderately expressive PN scent, verging on the raspberry/soft red fruit side with added consommée and perhaps a touch of soy sauce. Medium concentration, low acid, high sugar: yes, this is too cloying for balance. Pleasant but flabby finish. In no way did this bottle fulfil what the sample tasted from barrel back in 2010 promised. Not quite a con trick, but certainly tastes much more like a 30 EUR PN than the 84,50 EUR paid on release (let alone the absurd current market price). Oh dear, 5 bottles to go... 88P(?)

  • I wish I had read my previous note
30 min decant and off to Perry’s with Joe and Mirinda
    Nose was a little shy
Medium body with some tannins that need some more time to integrate but approachable now with longer decanting

  • No decant but needs some
Took to Ad Lib with Joe and the girls
    Vibrant with red fruits youthful
    No rush
Decant before drinking at least two hrs
