  • After some terrific Hudelot-Noellat '04 Grand Crus, this was a huge disappointment. Chemical green-ness that never blew over. One of the more stereotypically bad '04s I've had, unfortunately.

  • At Duck House: this has enough red-berry fruit and punch to mask the weediness just enough to keep it in the background. Very nice structure, sour cherry, touch of wild strawberry; good vibrant acid, medium firm tannins, very nicely done. This would really sail without the background greens (probably 92 or better?), but not as pronounced as other bottlings--more like green peppercorn than weeds. Try again in 3-4 more years.

  • An 04 that is in a good place. It has some Schezuan pepper on the nose along with crunchy red fruits. The fruit profiler in the mouth continues along red lines and it is laced by freshly ground Asian spices. It is minerally and fine with zippy acidity on the finish.

  • Super expressive, beautiful nose of Asian spice/soy, small forest berry, subtle miineral, leather, and hint of animal; silky mouth, beautifully integrated, didn't notice any real greeness, fine tannins. This has come into it's own and was really great. With filet mignon.

  • Clear, ruby color, watery-brownish rim. Perfumed on the nose, delicate aromas of rasperries, but there are darker elements also, like blackberries and blackcurrants, as well as a hint of spices and well-integrated oak. Pleasant fruit, medium body, refreshing acid, tannins on the light side. I do not find any hints of green-ness in this '04, it's just a very good and delicate vosne-romanée.
