  Top of the line chianti. The nose actually has a tarry leathery component that melds beautifully with the fruit on the nose. The palate is earthy, chewy, integrated tannins that really coat the tongue, and good fruit and an earthy quality. Still alive and bright even though I had extended the window to this year -- could go another year or two I suspect and still be vibrant.

  This is getting better, and is not at the end of the line. Very dark nose full of earth and leather, but also a strong note of fresh cut greenery (mowing a meadow). Palate has strong fruit and leather on palate, good acidity, and some marked tannins. Still has a firm and lively structure and good length. I'm extending the drinking window to 2010.

  Has a "darker" nose than before -- more tar and earth with the fruit. Still plenty of acidity on the palate working well with the lush sangiovese fruit. But still lacks any complexity on the palate. Moderately well balanced.
