Velvety feminine Volnay. Coy berry nose. Soft mature crushed dark red fruit on the palate. Good balance. Decanted and consumed over about two hours, in a great place. Took about 30 minutes to wake up. I really enjoyed this wine -- I'm a big fan of Lafon's reds. Lacks the austerity of Lafarge and D'Angerville (dig them as well) in a hedonistic way.
Remains deep; lean, sinewy nose, redcurrants, lithe; dry, severe, bereft of fruit; mean, pinched. fees some gamey nets but lacks much charm or interest: fairly long, which adds little benefit. Poor VFM. 24 hours on retains vigour, hard, but no real improvement.
This wine needs more time but overall is quite disapointing for the vontage and producer. Funky Volnay nose on opening with mushroom and wet earth with red fruits. Very linear and monolithic on the palate with a rather short finish. Never seemed to expand even with decanting. Med body with smooth tannins and mild acidity. To revisit in 3-4 years but I think this will stay at the village level quality. For the price, I'll pass.
