This seemed a bit flat. I'm not sure there was not a bit of TCA in there too. However, that being said, it was Monte Bello, nose of mint and berry with drying tannins, raspberry and bit of leather. Follow these carefully.
out of half bottle: dark red. Nose of coffee, ripe berries, chocolate and some vermouth flavors. Long, very balanced and smooth tannins. Multilayerd, complex and wonderful balance. In the half bottle already quite mature. Nice Monte Bello that reminds a lot of a Pauillac.
Solid, if not extra special, this came off a little green to begin. After some time, it morphed a bit to reveal more blue fruit, tannin and stone. Alcohol, raspberry in the nose, a bit of heat and pepper too.
After reading the reviews and Parker we decided to go ahead and open a bottle anyway even though the drinking window is still years away. We decanted 3 hours and found the wine to be very approachable and tasty. It surely can be enjoyed now. Compared with two other notable Napa Cabs for the evening, it was the best. 98 points
