  • Good old cool climate aged Cab Sauv. A bargain then and a bargain now. Last of my first case buy ever. Alas...

  • Ahh, good old aged Cab Sauv. Probably just starting to fade a touch but still with good balance between fruit structure and flavour. Faded over a two hour dinner so drink up.

  • Bigging this up again. What a great wine. We had our last bottle of this a few months ago and it as excellent, well tonight it was even better. An 18 year old Cab Sauv from the NSW High Country and it was just hitting its straps. Stunning colour of rich purple with a hint of brown shot through. The nose was Cab Sauv but with a meaty hint. The palate was in perfect balance! You know those wines where it is seamless and it just does it thing? Well this bottle was at that point. Shame we had to pop it with a few friends. This was a one person bottle. :-)

  • Pours a beautiful deep garnet which shines from within. A few signs of age browning the rim. The nose is balanced between primary fruit and tertiary elements, so... secondary average? On the palate it's all there, good med-full body with griping tannin, and acidic twang, fresh primary crunching blackberries with a stalky bite, and tertiary mellowness in tea, leather and tobacco. But bringing it back to basics, this is a well balanced, stupidly moreish, long length refreshing wine. Faded a touch by the second night so get ready to drink up any spares. Very good VFM (high teen-$s on release). Part of the first case of wine I ever bought (on the back of a Huon Hooke review in the Sydney Morning Herald).
