  • Subsequent notes on this wine from 8 years ago. Dark garnet in color with a slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & attractive nose of mature, ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes of roses & violets, tar, minerals, spices, forest floor, herbs, mint, some cocoa & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, mature, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & mulberries with cocoa, herbs & minerals. Long lingering silky-smooth finish. Drinks quite well at 22 years of age but it at or close to its peak of development. Although it should hold here for a few more years easily, I doubt any further development would occur with additional aging. Ullage was at mid-neck; cork was clean & intact. A remarkable Barbaresco.

  • I think I have had wine from Paitin before, but not totally certain; served this with truffle pasta and caprese chicken; the nose is fairly explosive and classic nebbiolo. Ripe red fruits, mushroom, menthol, forest floor, herbs, and tobacco. Opens with time to show more of the red fruits and floral notes emerge. The palate is dense and still has lots of structure, very powerful and a tinge hot for me. Freshens with air and the heat is not really noticed with food, just on its own. While this was really quite good nebbiolo, I think it has upside from here and my personal preference based on this showing would be another 5-10 years in the cellar.

  • The bottle was sourced directly from the winery recently, thanks to Pier of Oneonthehill. I decanted the wine for three hours in the morning, and poured it over dinner in the evening.

Medium to dark ruby colour. Roses, sweet red fruit, sour cherry, iodine, light earth, light chocolate, marzipan, spices, and clove, all built around a core of slate-like minerality, with good acidity, round tannin, and superb length. Medium to full, with good concentration. Pleasant light dryness. Intriguing combination of sweet and sour notes. And great tension! Firm, but smoothly textured, almost creamy, and well balanced. Has a lot of energy. And drinks very well! Almost easy. Keeps getting better and better over the cause of the evening. A stunning Barbaresco!

  • Unreal Barbaresco. Could have gone another few years.

  • StIll lots of tannins, but fruit is gone. Starting to fade but still ok for another year or two.
