Beautiful in every sense of the word. The sweet, decadently ripe cherries, black raspberries, strawberry jam, spice and earth, along with the texture that only comes from the patina of age were in full force with this bottle. Popped and poured, this was a stunner.
In the bouquet dark fruits, beautiful garrigue and some autumn impressions. On the palate dark forest fruits, chocolate, a touch of pleasant sweetness, soft acidity and tannin. A really beautiful , mature wine and better than the 1989. Completely ready now and no extreme hurry.
Showing its age in color, with a boatload of roasted fruit, cherries, kirsch and earthy, forest scents, the wine is supple, round and fresh, with a beautiful core of sweet, ripe, spicy, black cherries that really leave a lasting impression. This was tasted from a pristine bottle at the property.
20+ CDP Dinner (Bristol): Classic Pegau funk on the nose (but not too much). Rich, blackberry, barnyard, tea and iron on the palate. This bottle very fresh with strong fruit. Always a pleasure to drink older Pegau when it's on...and this bottle was on.
Popped, breathed in bottle 60 minutes, consumed over next two hours. Needed some air to come together. A lot of good things going on here, but I did not feel this bottle reached the heights of previous bottles and towards the end, it was tasting oxidized. Perhaps a little bottle variation or maybe this wine is finally in decline?
