A very well-stored bottle, with fill into the neck and a good cork. This vintage of Colonnello is past its peak, but still showing such a classic profile of a great Barolo. The aroma alone is fabulous. The fruit has faded a notch but this is still a great wine. For a little longer. No point in waiting though, as with many 85s.

Quite bricked in color. Expressive nose of tar, dried meat and floral notes. Initially pretty sour on the palate, but with some time it evolved to nice red fruit with some meat and truffle like notes. Pretty much no tannins left to speak of, though acidity is off the charts. Was great with pork belly and with the duck course. I would drink up in the next few years though, as I think the fruit peaked a few years back and soon one will be left with an acid bomb. Still, was pretty near great last night.

Much better than the other bottle opened a few months ago. Same storage at 55 degrees, humidity controlled, since release, but this bottle much better. Very good fruit for a 30 year old wine. Good complexity. Well balanced. Silky, smooth and very enjoyable. Excellent.

Brief note- Fully mature. Not very complex. Plum, tar, ash, tobacco and pencil. Old school style Barolo.

OK, but a bit too developed.
