I figured I’d at least add an incomplete note from memory on the basis that this is an older vintage still drinking well as of last month. Brought with us to a restaurant where we ate lasagna and steak. The nose was very muted upon opening and the sommelier suggested decanting (which I hadn’t planned on being a ‘99) and it opened beautifully with secondary and tertiary notes. Drank alongside a younger Ornellaia and the Oreno held its own!

This seems to be at peak right now. Classic cabernet nose, seemed a bit on the lighter side at first but appeared to put on weight with an hour or so of rest. Cassis and black raspberry the flavors that jumped to mind. Long finish, tannins no longer influencing the length of the flavors. While it should easily hold another five years, no reason to wait.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of melted black licorice, leather, smoke and black berries. Good flavors of berries and cherries. Medium acidity, tannins and body. Drink over the short term.

(Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno Toscana IGT) Sexy nose, a little gamey; grape and blueberry entry, with loads of tannin, and long tannic finish (50% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon; 18 mos. in French barrique)

Non-blind. Opened 3 hours before tasting.
Cabernety Super Tuscan with distinction. Molten tannins. On the plateau for high-pleasure drinking.

French Bakery BYO 1990's Tuscan IGT Dinner; 1/8/2008-1/10/2008 (French Bakery, 1023 Kane Concourse, Bay Harbor Islands, FL): Jerry's wine. Charlie correctly identified slight VA, initially. It drank well, and received a lone 1st from Lars, who is either an Iconoclast, or his magic # is 3! Had the misfortune to be paired w the the 97 Sassacaia, and the 01 Tua Rita Pietradonice.
