It should have been decanted for at least 90 mins but we were in a hurry. Dark fruit, cassis, violets, cinnamon, chocolate and vanilla on the nose and palate. It possesses a great balance between richness and elegance. Really enjoy it. 93-94

Explosive nose of great richness on blueberry, graphite, cedar and blackberry. This is California wine at its best.
Dense and exuberant mouth in line with the nose with an incredible complexity reminiscent of Bordeaux. The juice is intense and textured, of enormous depth, with dominant black fruit aromas, to which are added leather, tobacco and sweet spices. The oak is integrated in a noble way, the whole is vigorous but balanced thanks in particular to a filigree acidity which tends the wine in a harmonious way despite its 14.8% alcohol. Powerful finish on coffee and spices over an enormous length.
A great Napa Valley, a wine that impresses with its vibrant presence.

This 20-year-old Madrona Ranch is special! Serious blue graphite with a seductive, leathery grip. Brad Grimes’ sophomore vintage. Definitely no slump.
Pop and pour, drank over four hours. Definitely didn’t get a past-its-prime vibe. This particular bottle and cork was pristine, and impeccable provenance. On back side of the curve but still near the top. Tasted like a 2010.

At Boka in Chicago with Rick. This was Rick's generous contribution from his cellar. Splash decanted, drank over 90 minutes. Have not had this vintage, great opportunity.
Dark garnet color, some fading at the edge. Nose of blackberry, blue fruits, smoke, leather. Palate of black cherry, blueberry pie, sweet tobacco, Bdx like graphite. Secondary notes of blue fruit and dust/earth through the mid palate. Smooth texture, full/medium body, long finish (30-45 sec).
Great experience to taste a nicely aged and well stored bottle. The wine is still very expressive, fruit forward but settled in. Continued to improve in the glass over the time we drank it, suggesting a decant would be advisable. This has gone the distance - best guess is it has another 3-5 years at this level.
