Dark, nearly opaque purple-black, clear rim, rich aromas of crushed blackberry and blackcurrant, smoke and leather. Palate opens with fresh flavors of crushed black fruit, blackberry turnover, cassis; layers emerge of integrated saddle leather, sweet oak and vanilla, wet black earth, framed with sweet round tannins and a huge finish. Quite the evolution over the past 2 years. Exquisite, and the hit of the table.
Purchased one bottle at the suggestion of the proprietor of an oenoteca in Bolgheri. Quite disappointed I didn't try it first, because I'd have certainly purchased more. Unlike many Italian reds I've had, this wine need not be paired with food to perform well. Prominent fruit favors, with great balance between acids and tannins. Very well rounded.
An outstanding vintage from an outstanding Bolgheri producer. Rich, dark purple in glass, with aromas smoke and black fruit. Palate offers up multiple layers of blackberry compote, rich black earth, smoke, leather and cedar, but with soft, round tannins and a mile-long finish. Absolute hit of a dinner party, this is a rare jewel. Spectacular.
