  • In a really lovely phase. The nose is extraordinary. Tasting is a letdown only because of the impossibly high bar set by the aromatics. The wine is crisp and lively but has a luxuriant creaminess. There are some mature notes but fresh, orchard fruit flavors persist. Seems like there is plenty of time still for this to unfold.

  • Luis' "Bring a very good bottle" event: This riesling is in the zone. There is petrol on the nose along with stone fruit, the palate is round. There is more sweetness than I associate with a spatlese. Lychee and citrus. For me, this could use more acidity and less sweetness. But it is an outstanding riesling.

  • This is why I cellar Riesling. Sometimes they do this - purchased on release and now evolved into a very dynamic bottle. This Spat had for me a "true Spatlese" profile, yes there's sweetness but it's not the lead story. petrol and minerality, shimmers in the glass, restrained nose and then a very engaging palate. Deftly balanced. Pale yellow coloring, precise green apple, stone fruit and a touch of a leesy note. But the petrol etc. brings it to focus. Very good food wine. In a nice window but has the structure to hold further. Was a treat.

  • Mixed Wines at Tilia (Tilia, Mpls): Light gold color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes. This was drinking beautifully, so bright and full of tingling wet stone minerality with a sense of spritz Amazing fruit with acidity that makes this incredibly vibrant. Fresh cut apple, wet stone, slate, petrol, pineapple, candied, balanced and long. Delicious and it has a long future ahead of it, but I don't know that it will ever be better than it is now.

  • Light yellow. Light petrol on nose. Nicely balanced, citrus and apricot fruit layered on a middling level of acidity. The sweetness is not pronounced, and seems to have become more integrated with age. This is still young.
