Tuomas brought the wines, I tasted double blind

  • 2008 Sartori di Verona Amarone della Valpolicella - Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella
Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. This was a medium garnet red, not very violet. The nose was pleasant with lots of red berries, quite spicy with white pepper, a bit of oak and some licorice. The palate was quite sweet, not much tannins, quite soft and silky. I was rather surprised that this was an Amarone, I didn't get any raisiny aspect. This is also ready to go now, I don't see this getting any better in the cellar. (89 pts.)
  • 2007 Torres Cabernet Sauvignon (Black Label) Mas La Plana - Spain, Catalunya, Penedès
Decanted for an hour, tasted double blind. A rather dark violet red. The nose had a lot of oak, dark fruit, a very powerful wine. Also on the palate, lots of tannins, lots of fruit, very powerful. This was way too young at the moment, needs at least another 5 years, if not 10, in the cellar. Score for now, but will get better with time. (87 pts.)
