1985 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut - France, Champagne
great intensity and balance. beautiful.

1988 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
gorgeous nose. perhaps a little lightweight but drinks beautifully. feminine and perfumed. amazingly no trace of the usual 88 harsh tannins. (96 pts.)
1988 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands-Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
masculine and beefy, especially compared to the 88 dujac roche. great on the nose with lots of complexity, but a little dry and tannic on the finish. (93 pts.)

1997 Emmanuel Rouget Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cros Parantoux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
absolutely singing. to die for nose, great structure and balance. clear wine of evening for me. (98 pts.)
1997 George et Henri Jayer Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
lots of red fruits and earth. a bit more reticent than the rouget cros p, but still excellent. (95 pts.)

1997 Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley
coffee, chocolate, jam, licorice. it's all out there. not as overwhelmingly sweet as i remember it, but still needs a porterhouse. (97 pts.)
1997 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select - USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District
lush and velvety, vanilla, toffee. excellent showing. (95 pts.)
