  • 2005 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Ripe apple start-to-finish with lots of spice. Well textured with some nice edge and finesse. Good length, drinking nicely now with little age coming through. (93 pts.)
  • 2009 Peter Michael Chardonnay Point Rouge - USA, California, Sonoma County, Knights Valley
Nice floral start with massive amounts of tropical fruit and new oak spice on nose and palate. Certainly a wine with good concentration, but I find this a little too fat, ripe and hot for my preferences. Well made and I can understand why some like this.
  • 2013 Sine Qua Non Résisté - USA, California, Central Coast
Open, decanted 30 minutes before serving. Also extremely ripe and tropical with mango and roasted nuts coming through. Too much heat on finish. Not a type of wine I really enjoy. 45% Roussanne, 26% Chardonnay, 14% Petite Manseng, 10% Viognier and 5% Marsanne.
  • 2013 Boars' View Pinot Noir The Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Extremely ripe black fruit aromas with lots of protruding new oak for now. Ripe and forward fruit flavors as well to start, but followed by a hollowness in the middle I didn't particularly find appealing.
  • 2013 Ferren Wines Pinot Noir Silver Eagle Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Ripe black and red cherry with both savory and sweet spice throughout. Moderate depth. 14.6% alcohol, but this retains very fine balance and persistence through to the finish. I've never of this wine before, am told this is the first vintage. Well done. (92 pts.)
  • 2006 Sine Qua Non Syrah Raven Series - USA, California, Central Coast
Popped and poured, then consumed over a couple of hours. Ripe black cherry and plum, liqueur, cloves, allspice, black pepper, and background floral hints. Same flavor profile. Good structure and balance, particularly once open 15-30 minutes. Best taste was the last. (93 pts.)
  • 2000 Sine Qua Non Syrah In Flagrante - USA, California, Central Coast
Dense black fruit aromas and flavors with modest level of maturity I find engaging. Baking spice hints throughout. At a very good place now, aging slowly and elegantly. (94 pts.)
  • 2012 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve - USA, California, North Coast, Napa / Sonoma
Open, decanted an hour+ before tasting. Plum and wild blackberry aromas with liqueur hints, dark chocolate, espresso and faint baking spice. Identical flavor profile with very good depth and balance. I really like the structure and how the energy of mountain fruit comes through. My WOTN. (94 pts.)
  • 2009 Alban Vineyards Syrah Reva Alban Estate Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Edna Valley
Open several hours before serving. Reductive start that never really went away. Extremely ripe beyond the level I find enjoyable. I'm rarely a big Alban fan, and the fact that this bottle was on several airline flights, traveling 2000 miles in the past week surely did not help.
