  • 2002 Alphonse Mellot Sancerre Edmond - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
From magnum. Lively, fruity, with high crunchy accidity. Also a bit of reduction in the beginning - some sauerkraut juice. Develops aromas of gooseberries and lovely creamy oaky vanilla. Milky soft on the palate. Bright and beautiful wine. (91 pts.)
  • 2006 de Ladoucette Pouilly-Fumé Baron de L - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé
Very herbal, a touch vulgar in its green intensity. Almost like a NZ Sauvignon. There's also Muscat grape aromas and C vitamine. Wasn't to my liking. (85 pts.)
  • 2005 Domaine François Cotat Sancerre Les Culs de Beaujeu - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
Very fresh beautiful nose of lilies and fresh cucumber as well as tropical fruits. Mineral, very elegant, excellent, rich wine. If only all Sauvignon blanc could be as complex! (93 pts.)
  • 2006 Didier Dagueneau Blanc Fumé de Pouilly - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé
A tad overripe nose of an old champagne. Accidity on the lower side. Overripe and a bit too sweet on the palate as well. (87 pts.)
  • 2005 Didier Dagueneau Buisson Renard - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé
Fresh and clean, lovely complexity on the nose. A bit of typical gooseberries. Minerality as well. (91 pts.)
  • 2005 Didier Dagueneau Pur Sang - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé
Burnt sugar, overripe exotic fruits and pink grapefruit. Nice complexity and richness, an interesting wine. (91 pts.)
  • 2005 Didier Dagueneau Silex - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé
Somewhat introvert nose of white bread crust, exotic fruits. Expressive and rich on the palate. WOTN for the group. (92 pts.)
  • 2007 Edmond Vatan Sancerre Clos la Néore - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
So very clean and almost steely after all the rich Dagueneau wines we had. Nettle on the nose, flinty character, like a 1er Cru Chablis. Lots of tart green apple, juicy and saliva inducing, but underripe. Give it time. (92 pts.)
  • 2005 Tement Sauvignon Blanc Grosse Lage STK Ried Zieregg - Austria, Styria, Südsteiermark
Oaky and leesy nose. Also pineapple and salty minerality on the palate. Oak has hardly integrated by now, finish was somewhat bitter. A big wine. (90 pts.)
  • 2007 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc - New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
This bottle had more of expressive NZ SB character to it. Lots of exotic fruits and marzipan. Comparatively younger and more vulgar than the rest of the pack. (88 pts.)
  • 2006 Domaine François Cotat Sancerre Cuvée Paul - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
Dense, very ripe/overripe white fruits, peach. Lower accidity - sweetish and mild on the palate. Very nice. Will develop even further. (90 pts.)
