 9/11/2022 (Porcine, Oxford Street)

B & E were away on hols so it was just the four of converging on Porcine...

lunch

this lot was matched to duroc belly ham, pork creton, pate en croute, raw endive, rooster pot au feu, braised duroc shoulder...

  • 2017 Aphelion The Affinity - Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
Savoury with red berries, strawberry underpin, slight sweet spice, well controlled whole bunch. Medium plus intensity acidity, tangy, fleshy, a little textured burr, lightweight. Pretty nice.
  • 2006 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Initially savoury, gamey, meaty, sweet spice, plums, red berry in support. Soft, fruity, easy with plums and berries, grainy textured tannins persist long, handles it's alcohol well. Yum.
  • 2010 Yangarra Estate Grenache High Sands - Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
Rich, ripe, slightly jammy, red berry backed by savoury spice. Juicy, fleshy, red berries, less jammy on the palate, fruit forward, fairly simple, nominal texture. Hmm.
  • 2005 Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Savoury, slightly meaty, a little pepper, blackberry and raspberry, alcohol helps with that peppery impression. Acidity is juicy which lends freshness but there is a fair mid palate grip as well as plenty of breadth. Yum.
  • 1998 Querciabella Chianti Classico Riserva - Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
Meaty, tomato leaf, sweet spice, slightly oxidised, a little savoury cherry, leather. Medium plus intensity acidity, slightly oxidised on the palate as well, tight, slightly chewy tannins, muted savoury cherry fruit, wetly fleshy. gains a little weight and fruit with time as well as a smidge of dried orange on both the nose and palate. Okay.

nom nom nom all round...fun with the Grenache off...I think the Yangarra needed a decant of more time to show a touch more complexity...
