Tasted by PortFanatic on 5/17/2019 & rated 92 points: I thought this bottle was going to be dead or flawed. The purple old-style plastic cork worried me. I expected it to be badly tainted. well.... it was wonderful! Much smoother than I thought with decent complexity. Still slightly rustic, but still lively. What a surprise! It held up well over 3 days. (1302 views)
Tasted by bonedocnine on 12/14/2014 & rated 90 points: Holding up surprisingly well. The fruit is still alive and kicking. The tannins have softened and there are definitely some tertiary flavors present. I don't think there is much future here so drink now..... (2280 views)
Tasted by emzee.mc on 11/1/2014 & rated 91 points: The wine is popped and decanted for half a day before consuming. It pours a dark inky purple with long, thick legs and minimal sediment. On the nose, this wine hits all the hallmarks of a classic, heavyweight Napa cab, very jammy - crushed blackberries, cherries, kirsch, tobacco, eucalyptus and preserved plums. Good concentration and great extraction. On the palate, the wine, albeit boasting a solid backbone, is thinner than I have imagined. The tannins have full integrated into the wine and it makes for a seamless entry. More kirsch, spices, licorice, coffee and blackberry jam. Alcohol is very much present from start to finish. Acidity is quite low and the finish is rather long. Quite a good showing from a solid producer. Weird observation - somehow, this wine reminds me more of a Hermitage or Cote-Rotie rather than a Cab. But I am not complaining. Fabulous wine. (2282 views)
Tasted by kstracey on 10/10/2014 & rated 88 points: fruit forward - no tannins - minerally (should have been opened a year ago) (2295 views)
Tasted by tacman on 2/11/2009 & rated 90 points: A very nice wine; garnet color with black cherry on the nose ... the dark cherry fruit comes through early, with chocolate and hints of leather on the palate. The tannins and oak are present but minimal. (3188 views)
Tasted by Greg Pierce on 9/23/2007: Heavy, dense purple, with no lightening. Chocolate, dark fruits, slight touch of dill on the nose. Big dark fruits, mocha, long finish with a nice bit of acidity. Pretty tasty Cali cab from an off vintage. (3288 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 1/14/2007 & rated 90 points: Once again, not a bad showing. Very dark and big, yet accessible tannins. Lots of black fruits, coffee, licorice and perhaps a tad heavy on the oak... but splendid fruit. (2656 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 8/7/2006 & rated 91 points: One of the better balanced Behrens & Hitchcock wines I've had. Classic Napa Cab nose of cassis and crushed plums. Layered mouthfeel, fairly well resolved tannins and a nice lingering finish. Probably a function of the 2000 vintage, but this is ready to drink now. (2553 views)
Tasted by winestem on 10/22/2005 & rated 89 points: Lovely, dark and smooth. Everything well-integrated, gorgeous nose and deep purple color. (2560 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
