Disgorged July 2011. On fine form, remarkably fresh and youthful for a bottle with more than 12 years of post-disgorgement ageing, lots of minerally energy, and only a hint of tertiary evolution. In a way, this feels quite backward at the moment - it seems to be in a quiet phase, it will last for a very long time, and it will develop its real complexity over the coming decades. I have one bottle left, which I will keep for another ten years at least. (2319 views)

2023 New Years Eve: This is getting close qualitatively to my memory of the 1996 Grande Annee, and the best bottle of this champagne so far. New Years Eve (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Light medium gold color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes plus. This had a lovely maturuty to it, and while it was substantially lacking in bubbles there was a harmonious quality and no lack of Champagne character. The nose brings apples and chalky mineral notes, while the palate offers chalk, stone, white apples, lemon oil, creme de caramel, and a light oxidative note while remaining remarkably fresh and engaging. This was still bright, though when next to the '06 CdC you surely recognize the age difference. 94+ to 95pts. (1535 views)

2023 New Years Eve Celebration! (Kevin's House): What a nice Champagne! Great start to a fantastic line up for NYE!

Wine shows plenty of brioche and brine on the nose, with whiffs of lemon peel and gunflint. On the palate, the wine shows lots of tart apple and pear, with plenty of oyster, and limestone and hints of yeast and oak, especially on the finish.

An excellent Champagne that seduces you into another sip, and before you know it....it's gone! Solid 95 for me, and certainly on par, if not slightly better than the 06 Comte that followed it. (1461 views)

This bottle of Grand Annee opened beautifully fresh and light coloured with a rich nose of red apple, wild strawberries, cherry nougat, brioche and nuts. Overall sweet nose. Palate has good medium acidity to balance the sweet apples. Does feel slightly sweet and less exciting than the RD. Vintus Trip preceeded by 2 days in Paris; 4/14/2023-4/20/2023: 61% Pinot Noir, 39% Chardonnay, 'similar vintage to the 2014'
Earth and saline, lots of graham to the nose. Also some coconut cream pie note that emerges (like the 2008 RD), although here it doesn't seem to be directly related to the pairing with the 25m Gruyere. Pale gold color. Roasted almond and tarragon.

Holiday Champagne Gala (Park Ridge Country Club): Walkaround tasting. From magnum. Best I can ever recall for this wine. Rich and unctuous, this has Bollinger's bready character well combined with ripe orchard fruit with some cooked versions of the same. Powerful and lingering finish. (3945 views)

Somehow feels a lot more awesome than the last time I drank this in 2017. Or maybe my palate has matured into liking such stuff now?
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, yellow gold colour. Fine bubbles. Thin legs.
Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of toasty brioche, ripe citrus lemon, fresh orange, lemon peel, chalky stons minerality. Developing.
On the palate, dry, lovely high acidity, medium- alcohol (12%), medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of chalky stones minerality, sweet saline minerals, ripe Meyer lemons, orange + lemon peel, toasty brioche. Long finish with wet stone sucking and searing high acidtiy.

Lovely golden yellow colour with an incipient maturity showing ripe red apples, hazelnuts and minerals and opens up with extended time in the glass with lovely milk chocolate notes. It's Pinot time. Tasting the 2004 Pol Roger's Winston Churchill next to Bollinger's Grand Annee 2002. Right off the gate, Winston is unapologetic about its Pinot dominance. Dark yellow color, vinous, really broad shouldered with toast, spice and some earthy elements. The Bollinger was lighter in color. You could also sense the Pinot dominance but the wine was more airy and elegant with additional floral components. Today it was the winner with my guests for its additional, elegant side. Two great bottles and serve as a reminder that when it comes to Champagne it is key to strictly avoid the ridiculously overpriced, industrially produced NV plonk of the large houses (these should cost 10 EUR not 40EUR) and only drink the in comparison moderately priced prestige cuvees or well crafted Grower offerings. 95-96 (4844 views)

Champagne & A New Hope (Candie's, Mpls): Light gold color. Drank a glass plus over an hour. We drank these on a sunny New Year's Day outside in 23F temps. Refreshing...yes; ideal...not exactly; delicious...absolutely. Gathered around the fire pit with the freshly shucked oysters ready to go, this was next in line after the '02 Rare. I've had this wine a number of times over the years, and it has varied from outstanding to very good. It seems like more recdent bottles seem to be back on that upward trajectory. This was the best bottle I've had since one back on NY day 2017. This was outstanding, and I'm struck by the seductive toffee and butterscotch notes that are wafting off the nose through the crisp cool air. The toast is there, impressive depth and definition, lemon, crisp acid, creamy and lively, toffee, almond, cool limestone minerality. Excellent length and poise. This was great today - really nice with the oysters and gougeres. Glad I've got a few of these still tucked away. I'm not in any hurry. (3828 views)

Pristine bottle, Wonderfully fresh and vibrant, rich but elegant, lively mousse, smoke and lemons, red apple, flavours are subtle but rich, still without any tertiary development, complex and precise, gentle bitters, vinous finish, excellent length. This wine has a fine yellow-gold colour and the nose is rich with red apple, wild strawberries, cherry nougat, brioche and nuts. The palate is quite rich with some maturity yet time reveals those rich fruit and brioche characters that are balanced by a firm line of acidity and matiere that is typical Bollinger. The first was tired and oxidised, so much so that it was poured away; this bottle was the fresher of the two but we still had concerns about how aged this was for such a great year. A bit flat, lacking verve and complexity, it was a very disappointing bottle. If you have bottles from this disgorgement I would drink them sooner rather than later. (4108 views)

Disgorged July 2010 - an early release. The nose is quite uncommunicative, and seems slightly reduced, citrus, honey and a hint of straw; seamless and silky palate, good but not excessive weight, the flavour profile is perfectly classical, rich and rounded, slightly soft, with great complexity, but again with a spot of straw too; very good persistence. Fully mature, very good but not a brilliant bottle. Later (2012) releases are a lot fresher. Maybe that is the lesson here: drink earlier releases younger, the longer lees ageing gives the later releases a longer life. But I am not generally a big fan of old Bollinger, and to some this bottle may just be in its puberty? (4575 views)

Färgen beskrivs som medel och bubblorna var få men med lite mer intensitet än 04an. Äpple var genomgående tydligt i alla flaskor men i denna tyckte jag inte alls att det var lika tydligt initialt men att det växte fram med lite tid. Jag tyckte att den var lättare och blommigare än de andra och hade en liten annorlunda stil. Andra kände röda äpplen, friskhet, rätt bra tyngd och lite mognad. En tyckte att den låg mellan ung och mogen och en annan tyckte att det var lätt, lite moget och en champagne som skulle passa bra att bjuda icke initierade på som säkerligen skulle uppskatta den. Maybe unfair to taste against the R.D. but this was disappointing mainly because of the oxidative features in the nose (bruised apple). On the palate, it is none the less fragrant and supple. This is pretty complex, offering a yeasty, butterbraid nose, toast and minerality, citrus pitch, and toffee. The palate carries some weight, deep and rather toasty, while the somewhat oxidative style shows. This has a pear liqueur fruit along with red cherry notes, lightly chalky minerality and good acidity with a medium plus finish. It continued to get better with air and the last sips were the best. Went well with a fresh truffled buffalo mozzarella. This bottle (like the other 3) had not been perfectly kept for a period of 2 years after purchase, I have another case of perfectly stored tucked away and will be looking to pop corks on these from 2020. Fully developed. Cream mousse. Off dry, medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol, full body, pronounced intensity flavours, but only medium (+) length finish, a little dry on the end. Very mature vintage champagne. This bottle spent 8 years on the lees and was disgorged in 2011. It is clearly ageing rapidly, probably past its best, although this may be a matter of taste, but I'd suggest to drink up soon if you have a bottle disgorged a few years ago. (6053 views)

Dinner at B&A: Blind. Palest straw. This is very fine and refined, elegant. Feels quite Chardonnay rich, possibly even b de b. 2004 possibly. Gosh, when revealed this is a revelation. I was nowhere near Bolly, and this is so, so fresh. None of the oxidative notes or worse that 02 appeared to be heading towards. This takes me back to when I first tasted it shortly after release when it struck me as atypically fresh, bright and lively. With a bit more air, this does fill out somewhat whilst retaining its poise and line. Power with elegance. This is seriously good. ****1/2 would be ***** with a touch more developmental complexity. However, the first bottle showed a touch more openness and fat but also added a faint overlay aroma of vanilla which could have fooled me as being a sign of poorly digested oak ageing, improbable in a 14 year old wine. July 2011 disgorged. Absolutely beautiful champagne. This was drinking a point - a rich full body champagne with a big nose. On the palate I was getting lovely roast hazelnut and some ground coffee aromas. Long finish. Bollinger at its best if we consider their Vieille Vignes Francaises as "hors classe" ;-). This bottle had been stores for some time under sub-optimal conditions so this will have showed a bit more mature then a bottle kept in a cold cellar consistently. I had this wine on 3 previous occasions 2-3 years ago and back then it had not showed anywhere near as good as this bottle. This for some reason reminded me a lot of a younger version of Dom Perignon 1982 I had recently. Drinking superbly now and for the next decade. 96+

Pale yellow-green color. Surprisingly closed and inexpressive nose with vague autolytic aromas of toasted bread, some mocha and a hint of nuttiness. The wine is full-bodied, muscular and pretty intense on the palate, and it comes across as quite more expressive than the nose, although still not as quite is expressive as the previous bottle I had a few years ago. There are quite crisp, focused and youthful flavors of steely minerality, autolytic toast, some oxidative caramel tones, a little bit of brooding mocha character and a hint of spicy red apple. The wine is very structured with its high acidity and the soft, mellow mousse lends wonderful, creamy elegance to the mouthfeel. The finish is lively, bright and somewhat bitter with mineral flavors of tart lemony citrus fruits, chalk dust, some tangy green apples, a little bit of apple peel bitterness, a hint of oxidative nuttiness and a touch of steely minerality.

Contrasting the LGA 2002 I had three years ago, this bottle seemed leaner and much more youthful - and surprisingly closed as well. Contrasting the typically powerful, brooding and dark-toned style of LGA, this was surprisingly mute in the nose and quite lean on the palate. Sure, there were some autolytic and slightly oxidative toasty and nutty characteristics that are the hallmarks of this particular bottling, but in a surprisingly restrained fashion. I enjoyed the freshness and precision here, but I was surprised how underwhelming this wine felt compared to the typical LGA style - even with some air. I have no idea whether this was on off bottle or if the wine was undergoing a dumb phase. Nevertheless, the wine felt like it could continue to develop for a long time from here, so I'd say there is no hurry to open these bottles. Keep rather than drink. (3962 views)

Northern Rhone Night (Boca, Bukit Pasoh, Singapore): This has developed somewhat since the last few bottles - the easy charm that I liked so much in the past has receded somewhat, leaving behind a more substantial, muscular feel that was more truly Bolly in style. It was somehow a bit less enjoyable though. Along with the ripe red apple aromas from the previous bottles, the nose had now picked up a lot more mealy, meaty, slightly oxidative notes. The palate had put on quite a bit of weight and lot more grip too, with plenty of dry extract and a bed of dry, minerally notes coming out strongly from amidst the wine's familiarly fine mousse and bright citrus and apple flavours. There was still the zippy acidity and nice cut that I liked from previous bottles, but this now seemed a lot tighter and more wound-up, as if starting to go to sleep. With its quiet intensity and long finish – all grippy, mineral and a touch spicy – this has become a lot more serious than the delicious but easy-going Champagne of the past. Good raw material here, but it distinctly feels like it needs more time. One to try again in 3-4 years, and then again in a decade or so. (7490 views)

Drunk with a seafood medley of Queensland scallops, soft shell crab and King Prawns on a crisp, sunny Saturday afternoon in Sydney. Fine, plentiful bead. Cannot believe this is already 13 years old. Super expressive nose of brioche, bread, lemon and citrus. Rich, balanced palate of green apple, pear and lemon which finishes with laser like minerality and acidity. Long finish.
